About the Department

The Department of Civil Engineering, established in 1962, is one of the oldest and core departments of Government Polytechnic, Durg. The department offers a Diploma in Civil Engineering and is committed to developing competent, skilled, and socially responsible diploma engineers capable of addressing the needs of the infrastructure and construction sectors.

The department imparts fundamental knowledge and practical skills in surveying, construction technology, structural engineering, transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, public health engineering, and water resources engineering. Through outcome-based education, laboratory training, field exposure, and industry interaction, the department enables students to apply engineering principles, utilize modern tools and techniques, and contribute effectively to planning, execution, quality assurance, and maintenance of civil engineering projects.

The students, after completing the course, are equipped to pursue careers in government and private sectors as Junior Engineers, Site Supervisors, Surveyors, and Quality Control Personnel, as well as to engage in higher studies, entrepreneurship, and lifelong professional development.
